Yippee-ki-yay Independence Day

DUBLIN — For about two hours it felt like America.
I just got back from Live Free or Die Hard, which is just “Die Hard 4.0″ here. And I’m having a hard time thinking of a more American movie. It made me want to barbecue and shoot off fireworks.
So I hope you’ll all do that for me.
It’s one of the few things that’s made me miss the states, and for a couple hours, I was home. No looking at medieval sculptures, halls of saints or giant libraries. Just two hours of a guy with a gun beating the hell out of a bunch of guys with guns.
Then I walked outside and got culture shock all over again. Now, I’m watching Wimbolden again for some reason. I had lunch at the Foggy Dew Bar, just because I couldn’t resist the name.
The bar had a lot of cool stuff. A Joe Strummer CD was up on the wall with a bunch of Clash records. There was a bunch of Jimi Hendrix stuff and instead of playing Irish music, they just played Jimi.
Tomorrow will be my last full day in Dublin for a while, so I’ll have to figure out what to do. Still haven’t seen the Guinness factory, and I should probably pick up a few gifts. Then Cork for the weekend.
Everybody play safe. And I have a Guinness for you, if you light a firecracker for me. Cheers.

I thought you might enjoy your horoscope published this week in INtake, the young adult entertainment weekly here at the Star:
“TAURUS – You’re fulfilling your dream of travel to the Emerald Isle. Too bad Irish people hate you. Yes, all of them.”
And yes, I did have some amount of influence on that after I found out the girl I sit by writes them every week. The mean part wasn’t me, though, so either you now have the ability to make people I work with dislike you without even meeting you, or that’s really just what’s in the stars.

That’s outstanding.

I loved the bit about Die Hard 4.0… I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I did see Transformers and I did go home and BBQ and shoot fireworks off afterward, it was that good. Glad to hear you can always get a taste of America no matter where you are. Not even Dublin is safe from John McClane. And I certainly lit off some fireworks just for you, which reminds me… have you heard from Landen yet? He laid down his bike at 30MPH on some crazy back highway… his leg is a little scrapped up and his bike has about $2,000 worth of damage he thought, but other than that everything is okay. I’m sure you’ve heard, but just in case! Talk to you soon Jake, take care.
